If you only lose a bit less than half the amount of people that you kill, then an "operation" is deemed a success

At least nine Marines died, 40, at least, were injured, there are reports of several thousand people displaced from that northern area of Iraq, the news of collateral damage is coming out in drips and drabs--the news items such as" I fled from my home with nothing, and my five year old was killed by one of the bombs...."

But Operation Matador was a success---the US killed 125 insurgents--who were probably Saudi's.
