The Poster Child for the Sexual Abuse Scandal......a sunday type of issue

"He is like the poster child for the sex abuse scandal," said Barbara Blaine who came to Rome to represent some 5,600 members of the Survivors Network of those Abused by Priests. She and a companion tried to hand out fliers and spoke to a crowd of TV news crews, but were escorted off St. Peter's Square by police who said unauthorized interviews were not allowed within its boundaries. " the rest of the story, HERE.

Showing just how much the leaders of the catholic church truly care about the sexual abuse scandal, they asked disgraced Cardinal Law to preside over the mass for their dead pope. He was forced to resign in 2002 over the sexual abuse that he knew of and did nothing about. Well, except to play musical parishes with the offending priests. Some of the people victimized are upset that he was given the distinction of anticipating in the Pope's funeral extravaganza.
Just a little background on law and the sexual abuse hushed up by him, from this BBC article....
The Boston Archdiocese avoided bankruptcy by agreeing to sell land and buildings for over $100m to fund legal settlements to more than 500 abuse victims.

In February 2004, a report commissioned by the Church said more than 4,000 US Roman Catholic priests had faced sexual abuse allegations in the previous 50 years, in cases involving more than 10,000 children - mostly boys. And that report was commissioned by the church itself. I wonder what the findings of an independent report would consist of.
100 million dollars......That is a LOT of available income.
I bet that many of the impoverished catholic families living in third world countries and struggling to support several children because they do not use birth control due to the catholic church's rules, could use some of the extra cash that church has laying around. As could the AIDS victims in Africa, where the church stipulated abstinence, not condoms, to be used as a form of AIDS prevention.
I honestly do not know how that pope and his cardinals, et al, sleep at night. The subjugation of women, the abject poverty that forbidding birth control makes so many families sink into, the excruciating anguish that rape victims, especially in war ravaged areas such as Africa and Central America must go through because they are forbidden emergency contraceptives and abortions... The complete disregard for years of the sexual abuse of young children, women and nuns, especially missionary nuns..I don't know, maybe it's me, but instead of idolizing the dead pope and the new one, I say charge them with the crimes that they are culpable for--aiding and abetting sexual abuse, and destroying lives.
The cry of "oh, but the pope was helpful in eliminating thirld world debt" as a justification somehow for his exalted position in this world, and for the gross excesses surrounding this church of the saint called money---well, the cycle of poverty that faithful catholics fall into because of the church's teachings begin, aid, and abet third world poverty. Check it at it's source, rather than at the end of it's spiral.
I'm just saying..I don't know how the leaders of the catholic church sleep at night. Don't they have a conscience? No wonder the GWB is simpatico with them---greedy minds think alike.
