Well, children, where there is so much racket there must be something out of kilter. I think that 'twixt the negroes of the South and the women at the North, all talking about rights, the white men will be in a fix pretty soon.

But what's all this here talking about?

That man over there says that women need to be helped into carriages, and lifted over ditches, and to have the best place everywhere. Nobody ever helps me into carriages, or over mud-puddles, or gives me any best place!

And ain't I a woman? Look at me! Look at my arm! I have ploughed and planted, and gathered into barns, and no man could head me! And ain't I a woman?

I could work as much and eat as much as a man - when I could get it - and bear the lash as well! And ain't I a woman? I have borne thirteen children, and seen most all sold off to slavery, and when I cried out with my mother's grief, none but Jesus heard me!

And ain't I a woman?

It's Time To Shut The Thing DOWN!!!

truthout has a heartwarming video with a great representation of just who attended the massive ProPeace rally in DC on Saturday. Also check out the video from the PDA rally that was held Sunday. Medbh was there.
And she wants to say that on Sat., the ONLY Democratic Party representation that she saw anywhere.....and she walked all over that area on Saturday--the ONLY representation of any part of the Democratic party was the PDA.(well, except for the group of college students who wore the "Democrats have best ass on campus t-shirts"..)

It isn't only the criminals in the White House who need to wake up and get out of our house, a whole lot of the members of the Democratic party need to take their walking papers and GO!

blogger is being a bugger today, but at least the old hello program has decided to work, finally. Just in case you didn't read about it in the "liberal" media......or just in case you did read about it and the report said that tens of thousands of people attended the DC ProPeace rally, in actuality, it was more like hundreds of thousands of people who attended.

HUNDREDS of THOUSANDS. From infants with who had pro peace slogans on their tiny cute t-shirts, to people past the 80 year mark, who pushed themselves along hanging ONTO THEIR WALKERS, and others who were pushed by their families and friends in their wheelchairs, AMERICAN CITIZENS turned out enmasse. American citizens of all ages, colors, physical ability, sexual orientation, and religious belief.

And they waited patiently in line for hours, just for the opportunity to walk several blocks to their White House and tell President Bush, et al, that they want PEACE.

THAT HE DOES NOT SPEAK FOR THEM. I heard one refrain over and over. It came from people who were dressed in weekend casual chic college professor type attire. "I haven't done this since Vietnam." I rode down on a Peace Action bus with a man who said he hadn't been to DC since the early 60's, when he was stationed there, as part of a Naval Intelligence Unit. There were lots of silver heads in the sea of people in DC. Lots. And they were down there, sadly, to tell yet another Republican administration, that they do not want their country involved in a slaughter. Again.

Nearly every person carried a sign expressing their opposition to the current administration's policies. Some of the ones that made me smile: on the backs of two cute dogs-
"Huskies For PEACE!"
carried by a distinguished older man "Balding Jews For Peace"
on tshirts worn by a large group of young women who marched in front of me "Democrats, the best ASS on campus
a sign carried by a group of young men dressed in jeans and t-shirt--"Punks for Peace"
on a sign carried by a group of 20 somethings--"Yo George--Real Men Know When to Pull Out"
carried by a young women who marched next to me, "If Katrina was named Schiavo, then Bush would have sent the entire Republican Party to save her"
and there were lots and lots of the "Worst President Ever" and $$ for Jobs, not Wars, War Criminal, Master of Disaster, and similar posters. What did mine say? "Establish a Department of PEACE." well, I just wanted to get this pic up, just in case you didn't hear anything about the massive our liberal news media.......... Tomorrow is the International Day of Peace


UN General Assembly Resolution 55/282 fixed the date on September 21 each year. The observance is to be a day of strengthening the ideals of peace and alleviating tensions and causes of conflict. All Member States, organizations of the United Nations system, regional and nongovernmental organizations and individuals are invited to commemorate the Day in an appropriate manner , including education and public awareness and to cooperate with the United Nations in establishing a global ceasefire. Join people throughout the world in one Minute of Silence this Day at 12 NOON in our common commitment to peace. Have a Minute of Silence in your school, home or office. Ring a bell, light a candle for Peace. Plan a local event at a school, place of worship, library, park or municipal building. Build partnerships within your community. Let our government know that you do not support the path that they have taken our country onto.

And at one point in our history, people doubted that women would ever have the right to vote, but they do. These changes in society's thought patterns, and of what was acceptable, or the norm in human behavior, CHANGED. And they changed because enough of us KNEW that there had to be a better way. And for years, we pushed and pushed for the change against the behemoth. And we won.

The Day I Watched My Mother Die---

Millions of Americans have found their voice since watching the horrendous news coming out of NOLA.
I am sure that the limbless Iraq vets and Iraqi citizens whose country we bombed wished that we had had found our voice a bit sooner....

I am on my way to a three day Department of Peace convention in good ol DC. But peace is something that has been hard to hold in my heart since 8/30.
Because I watched my elderly, crippled, bed-ridden mother die again that day.

I watched my wheelchair bound father gasp for air as the water covered his blind eyes.

I watched the people whom I have spent twenty years of my professional life helping, gurgle for air as the waters of Katrina, free to murder at will, thanks to GWB budget cuts, caught up to them.

I see the pictures in my mind; a long slow race with the water god. What did the person in Louisiana, wheelchair bound and total care due to being born with cerebral palsy, although with a normal IQ think of, as the waters converged over his air passages?

What would you think? I know what you would think, in the middle of a seeping, sure death. You would be thinking of a way that you could help the other people shoved into a school gymnansium and left to die, well, you would be thinking of a way to help THEM.

If you could just move the attached voice box on your wheelchair so that you could spell out HELP PEOPLE ARE DROWNING! " and somehow get that message to the "authorities" before you yourself succumbed, you then you would have helped someone.

You live in a nursing home or a group home, and have for a few years now, because your elderly parents can no longer manage your involved home care.
And where are those parents???
Your mind focuses on them, as the water creeps ever upward. The people who stayed close by even after they moved you to the group home. They bathed, fed, and changed your diapers, even as your helpless body grew pubic and facial hair as you matured into an adult.

WHERE ARE THEY? They live close by. You can see the streets to their house--you memorized them while in your wheelchair on all of the weekend drives home.

WHERE ARE THEY? If you can see the water seeping up to the IV, and now almost at your elbow, then surely they would have seen the water outside by now. And, you know, that if your parents saw that water, that even at their advanced age, and even with Mom having had the stroke, they would be here. They would rescue you, and get the other stricken people here, to safety.
If they were alive.

Dad, still thinking that he was the strong Korean War Vet who not only survived, but managed to carry and evacuate three of his remaining company to safety during a horrible battle, ---well, Dad would have carried the partially ambulatory Mom, to the car, and they would have driven straight on to get you, their last child. Their late in life baby.

The thought of them drowning in their home is too difficult to bear. What if Dad, at 78, had slipped in the driveway while helping your mother? What if the hell named Katrina had caught them both out in the open, while they were trying to get to you?

My head drops gently forward.
The water is almost at my chin now, anyway.
I now know where my parents are.

They are dead. Drowned in this hell named Katrina. They devoted their entire life to me, their late in life baby and last child. They lived the last 30 years of their life caring for me. Fighting for me. They formed the Parents of Children with Disabilities Alliance, a few years after I was born.

They helped the young couples who had just learned that their beautiful baby would never walk or talk, or move on his or her own again, to value the life they had brought forth, and to cope as best they could.

My parents valued my life. That I know. And if they were not dead, they would be here. The water is almost at the tip of my nose now. Most of the old people from the nursing home have resigned themselves to the rising water. Some writhe about in their wheelchair's, fighting the waves of reeking, putrid water.

Some try to be heroic, but the energy needed to push someone else in a wheel chair to a different room in the gymnasium, a room that is hopefully safe from the water, is just too much. Especially when you are in a wheelchair yourself.

But I guess they would rather fight the injustice of a rising water and a world that no longer cares, than to surrender to a heartless sea.

I keep trying to communicate with people via my voice box. But that is now soaked, and I can no longer drown out the cries and the horrible gurgles of the people around me who are drowning. I tried to stay the course.

My parents were so brave. I watched them fight for me all of my life. I know they must be gone now. Please let me just join them. I wish not to suffer anymore than I have in this life. I wish peace and health to the workers who brought us here and left us here to die.

I am going to hold my breath now.
I will make my slack mouth muscles grip together, and hope that the foul smelling water will take pity, if not on my disabled body, then on my dead parents, and let me drown quickly, and painlessly.
Like so many others, I watched the hell that is Katrina be unleashed on Americans, as our Administration and Arabian Horse fancier types watched, clueless.

As the old people were slowly airlifted, finally, from their deluged homes, I kept thinking of my bed ridden mother. She was bright, quick, strong, and suffered a massive stroke three years ago. She was brought home and cared for by Hospice and her adult children until her death seven months after the stroke.

I keep wondering--if NJ was hit with a Katrina type disaster--what would we have done with our mother? There was just no way that you could have moved her.

The medical equipment, the medicine that had to be refrigerated, the care needs... What in the world would we have done?
Allthough, I know what we would have done. The siblings with children woud have been made to take to higher ground. IF an ambulance was available, we would have hired one to take us---somewhere.

Probably, though, we would not have been able to hire an ambulance, and we would have tried to ride it out. When the waters reached the top of the ramp that my brother had built for her, I am sure we would have started to devise a plan to get her, in her hospital bed, to the second floor.

And when the waters reached the top of the stairs, and started pushing through and down the hallway, we would have started trying to make a hole in the roof. The windows in the top half of that old farmhouse were no way big enough to hoist my mother through and up to the roof.

And when the waters made their way to te top of her hospital bed, and we still hadn't managed to break through the roof--what would we have done?

Left our mother to drown before our eyes? Or died trying to push her through the too small hole in the too strong roof, while the too strong water drug us down into the hell that has been named Katrina?
oh, and Brownie--yes, you did a heck of a job. Just ask people like me, and the relatives of the folks who used to live at St. Rita's........

from an agency who has been down in La., helping people since day ONE----unlike another agency we know of, the one that Brownie still heads, even if they did make him sit on the bench for awhile.....

"The people of New Orleans are being treated as criminals, as if we have done something wrong. A friend saw a 6 year old girl handcuffed for having a bag of diapers in her hand, taken from a store. I refuse to use the word looting for any situation in which people were merely trying to procur the goods needed to survive. A 6 year old girl, handcuffed.

We are in need of volunteers who can donate their time and or equip, or both for the animal rescue effort going on in the City of New Orleans.

We are average American citizens that can no longer stand to watch the revolting images on our TV screens, our hearts are breaking. We are teachers, veterans, housewives, you name it. We are driving into Nashville, TN Saturday morning to leave for Memphis to pick up supplies at the Memphis Humane Soc.

Then we will be leaving that day to go down to the LA Humane Society and Bestfriends Animal Society in Tylertown, MS to volunteer, which is where the animals being rescued out of New Orleans are being taken to. We spoke to the pres of the LA Humane Soc. and they are welcoming us with open arms.

The people down there are exhausted and need some relief. We need large trucks and boats if any one can drive them straight down. Also building supplies, fencing, and the skills to build etc are needed. There are many animals that due to the standing water have not even been able to be reached due to lack of enough boats.

The call for boats is tremendous, we need help. Gas is now available down there, but you will need to bring all of your own personal supplies, such as a tent, waders, boots/gloves, water, food, no elec or water. Any donations of pet supplies are needed as well. Keep up the pressure with your emails, phone calls etc .

I'm not at triage point. It was closed down last night--too few survivors now.

I'm at a NOPD precinct office. Mission is now to care for Cops/Fire/Rescue.

They are running on fumes, but deny anything is wrong. Main problems are podiatric and psych. Psych self-explanatory. Feet problems due to toxic soup.

Two NOPD dogs drank from flood water--dead within hours.

Cops have chemical burns on exposed skin.

Blackwater Security is here--clean, well-equipped, and armed to the teeth.

2 cop suicides so far. I was told by "head" doc that one was a search & rescue guy who went home to find family drowned.

Tragic stories abound--more tonight
Haven't we been told by everyone in the malAdministration that we are "accomplishing amazing breakthroughs in rebuilding Iraq" in the face of a guerrilla insurgency?

Does that mean that Iraq Relief is worth weathering automatic weapons fire and IED's, but New Orleans relief can be stymied by a couple of guys with rifles stolen from WalMart?

The Jefferson Parish president, Aaron Broussard, told CBS news that government would have to be held accountable for what had happened.

"Bureaucracy has murdered people in the greater New Orleans area and bureaucracy needs to stand trial before congress today," he said.

"Take whatever idiot they have at the top, give me a better idiot. Give me a caring idiot. Give me a sensitive idiot. Just don't give me the same idiot."

BULLETIN: Police Do Not Have Supplies in New Orleans

Police officers searching for survivors of the New Orleans hurricane have reported that supplies are not reaching them.

Many have not been able to wash their clothes or shower since the hurricane hit, and the water is so polluted that they cannot reuse clothing or boots that have been in the water.

They have sent out a desperate call for cargo pants of all sizes, combat books and socks, flashlights and batteries, t-shirts that say POLICE, underwear, and all toiletries (i.e., toothbrushes, toothpaste, deodorant, aspirin, insect repellent, tampons, eye drops, razors, shaving cream, etc.).

If you can help, please contact The Feminist Majority Foundation’s National Center for Women and Policing will provide you a way to get these supplies directly into the hands of police in New Orleans and the other affected areas.

On Monday, some firefighters stuck in the staging area at the Sheraton peeled off their FEMA-issued shirts and stuffed them in backpacks, saying they refuse to represent the federal agency.

Barbara Bush said today, referring to the poor who had lost everything back home and evacuated,"This is working very well for them." ......

.....In a segment at the top of the show on the surge of evacuees to the Texas city, Barbara Bush said: "Almost everyone I’ve talked to says we're going to move to Houston."

Then she added: "What I’m hearing which is sort of scary is they all want to stay in Texas. Everyone is so overwhelmed by the hospitality.

"And so many of the people in the arena here, you know, were underprivileged anyway, so this--this (she chuckles slightly) is working very well for them."

Three of the children were about 2 years old, and one was wearing only diapers. A 3-year-old girl, who wore colorful barrettes on the ends of her braids, had her 14-month-old brother in tow.
The 6-year-old spoke for all of them, and he told rescuers his name was Deamonte Love.Thousands of human stories have flown past relief workers in the last week, but few have touched them as much as the seven children who were found wandering together Thursday at an evacuation point in downtown New Orleans. In the Baton Rouge headquarters of the rescue operation, paramedics tried to coax their names out of them; nurses who examined them stayed up that night, brooding.....

That’s the subtext of Katrina and New Orleans. That’s why Bush and Co. reflexively marched lock step into incredible callousness. Accept business as usual as priority one and all that’s left is different brands of callousness. And then Bush’s media spinners have to sell Bush’s callousness.

So like rabid sociopaths they try what often works, being tough - "shoot the looters to kill" they bluster. Shoot people who are taking food and water and sharing it with those too old or too young to loot for themselves. Shoot the sick seeking medicine to survive.

Shoot, shoot, shoot. Don’t distribute what’s needed, heaven forbid. Defend empty stores. Defend empty hotels. Who cares about the living, after all, a lot of them will soon be dead and the rest silent.....Bush has bloody hands, but beyond Bush, the larger system of business as usual guaranteed a catastrophic response to this catastrophe. Katrina is supposed to have hit an area in the Gulf states the size of Great Britain. The need is enormous, and the government looks like it is actively hampering the relief efforts. Here is the NOLA volunteer forum, as well as three citizen organizations that are helping, and that need help.

Hilltop Rescue in Slidell, La., needs volunteers and money. They say the area is safe, and that the media reports have been sensationalized---as usual--read what they have to say, and let's help them. excerpt "Unfortunately, the only news coming out of New Orleans is sensationalized; the media goes to the worst area, portraying everything in the worst possible light. We actually saw MSNBC stage a shot behind a reporter to make it look worse. We traveled all through Mandeville, Slidell, Covington, and the Mississippe Gulf Coast - it was all safe - no looting. "

After I sent out this morning's update, I received a call from a friend letting me know that he had just spoken to another friend, Mike, who is in the French Quarter - and that no such thing was happening in the French Quarter. So the good news is that these evacuations are not taking place throughout the city of New Orleans. The bad news is that, yet again, it appears that the poorest, mostly African-American neighborhoods are being targeted for this 'special treatment.'

For the first 72 hours, the feds pay for 100% of the costs, after that, they only pay for 75%

UPDATE--The Bill was amended--
"I have determined that the damage in certain areas of the State of Louisiana, resulting from Hurricane Katrina beginning on August 29, 2005, and continuing, is of sufficient severity and magnitude that special conditions are warranted regarding the cost sharing arrangements concerning Federal funds provided under the Robert T. Stafford Disaster Relief and Emergency Assistance Act, 42 U.S.C. §§ 5121-5206 (the Stafford Act).
Therefore, I amend my declaration of August 29, 2005, to authorize Federal funds for debris removal and emergency protective measures (Categories A and B), including direct Federal assistance, under the Public Assistance program at 100 percent of total eligible costs, for a 60-day period retroactive to the date of the major disaster declaration.
This adjustment to State and local cost sharing applies only to Public Assistance costs and direct Federal assistance eligible for such adjustments under the law. The law specifically prohibits a similar adjustment for funds provided to States for Other Needs Assistance (Section 408), and the Hazard Mitigation Grant Program (Section 404). These funds will continue to be reimbursed at 75 percent of total eligible costs.
Please notify Governor Blanco and the Federal Coordinating Officer of this amendment to my major disaster declaration.

I feel sick. How much is 25% worth? If the NO police officers who committed suicide because they were overwhelmed had had relief during that 100% Federal payout time period of the first 72 hours, would they still be alive? Would the dead now be sitting in a clean shelter? Would the children who watched the rapes and looting while living in feces and piss have 25% less nightmares and 25% less scarred psyches? Would the business owners and home owners who lost all lost have less? less than 25% ?

How much is 25% worth in human life, in human misery, in death?
I wonder what the actual ratio of insurance payouts/Federal dollars in relation to building contracts/profits given out to companies like helliburton in this situation are? Was it financially worthwhile to those unhumans to drown New Orleans??? I wonder how many victims know that they have six months to file their claims. Will they still be in shelters far away, in six months? How will they get their documents to prove ownership?

I think that perhaps a LOT of planning actually went into the Hurricane/Flood relief efforts.

You are authorized to provide Individual Assistance and assistance for debris removal and emergency protective measures (Categories A and B) under the Public Assistance program, and Hazard Mitigation in the designated areas; and any other forms of assistance under the Stafford Act you may deem appropriate subject to completion of Preliminary Damage Assessments (PDAs), unless you determine the incident is of such unusual severity and magnitude that PDAs are not required to determine the need for supplemental Federal assistance pursuant to 44 C.F.R. 206.33(d). Direct Federal assistance is authorized.

Consistent with the requirement that Federal assistance be supplemental, any Federal funds provided under the Stafford Act for Public Assistance, Hazard Mitigation and the Other Needs Assistance under Section 408 of the Stafford Act will be limited to 75 percent of the total eligible costs. For a period of up to 72 hours, you are authorized to fund assistance for debris removal and emergency protective measures, including direct Federal assistance, at 100 percent of the total eligible costs. Federal funding for debris removal will remain at 75 percent.
Further, you are authorized to make changes to this declaration to the extent allowable under the Stafford Act.
The time period prescribed for the implementation of section 310(a), Priority to Certain Applications for Public Facility and Public Housing Assistance, 42 U.S.C. 5153, shall be for a period not to exceed six months after the date of this declaration.
The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) hereby gives notice that pursuant to the authority vested in the Under Secretary for Emergency Preparedness and Response, Department of Homeland Security, under Executive Order 12148, as amended, William Lokey, of FEMA is appointed to act as the Federal Coordinating Officer for this declared disaster.

*Survivor struggles to get help for dead family -Matthew's mom, Geno Veva, spent the storm at Southern Mississippi Regional Center, a facility for mentally handicapped adults in Long Beach where she works.

*Babies cried. The sick huddled in the shade in wheelchairs or rested on cots. Dawn Ray, 40, was in tears, looking after an autistic niece who had soiled herself and her son who is blind and has cerebral palsy.

*Yesterday, he explained that management at the hospital decided to selectively withhold food and water from patients. Doctors are being forced to decide who gets to live and who will starve to death. The hospital is surrounded by 8 ft of flood water; there is no more electricity, food or water. Windows are broken out and people are starving.

*ZDF News reported that the president's visit was a completely staged event. Their crew witnessed how the open air food distribution point Bush visited in front of the cameras was torn down immediately after the president and the herd of 'news people' had left and that others which were allegedly being set up were abandoned at the same time. The people in the area were once again left to fend for themselves, said ZDF.

*Echoing the mayor's prediction, Gov. Kathleen Blanco said Saturday she expected the death toll to reach the thousands. And Craig Vanderwagen, rear admiral of the U.S. Public Health Service, said one morgue alone, at a St. Gabriel prison, expected 1,000 to 2,000 bodies.

*City of Chicago offered feds emergency help last Sunday - feds said no

*In 2004, the Corps essentially stopped major work on the now-breached levee system that had protected New Orleans from flooding. It was the first such stoppage in 37 years, the Times-Picayune reported.
"It appears that the money has been moved in the president's budget to handle homeland security and the war in Iraq, and I suppose that's the price we pay," Jefferson Parish emergency management chief Walter Maestri told the newspaper. "Nobody locally is happy that the levees can't be finished, and we are doing everything we can to make the case that this is a security issue for us."

*Newborns from the intensive care and well-baby units at Charity and University hospitals were taken to Women's Hospital in Baton Rouge, Marvin McGraw, spokesman for the LSU hospital system, wrote in a news release sent Saturday afternoon.
He said mental health patients and staff went to the Central Louisiana State Hospital at Pineville. Employees, students, and residents were taken to Baton Rouge or San Antonio, the statement said.

A hellauva Job, Texas style...

Leader of Federal Effort Feels the Heat - New York Times: Mr. Brown, 50, is a Republican lawyer who worked for the International Arabian Horse Association before joining FEMA in 2001 as general counsel. This week he has become the public face of an agency that critics say has lost focus and clout since it was absorbed in 2003 by the new Department of Homeland Security.

The news out today about FEMA Director Michael Brown tells the ugly tale. So let's just review what we now know -- with key new details first from a diarist at DailyKos and now confirmed in more depth in this morning's Boston Herald.

Michael Brown is a lawyer and GOP party activist. Before he came to FEMA in 2001, he had a full-time job overseeing horse-shows as the commissioner of the International Arabian Horse Association. He started with them in 1991. But he was eventually fired because of what the Herald describes as "after a spate of lawsuits over alleged supervision failures." (The Kos diary has some more details.)

But the stars were shining on Brown because President Bush had just been elected. And he appointed his chief political fixer Joe Allbaugh to replace James Lee Witt as head of FEMA. That was a good break for the recently-canned Brown, because, as we learn from the Herald, he and Allbaugh were college roommates. He hired Brown as his General Counsel at FEMA in February. And then, by the end of the year, he promoted him to Deputy Director.

Then, little more than a year later, Allbaugh left FEMA to set up New Bridge Strategies, a consultancy to cash in on the Iraqi contracts bonanza. On Allbaugh's departure from FEMA, Brown became Director, in charge of federal domestic emergency management in the United States.
So, just to recap, Brown had no experience whatsoever in emergency management. He was fired from his last job for incompetence. He was hired because he was the new director's college roommate. And after the director -- who himself got the job because he was a political fixer for the president -- left, he became top dog. And President Bush said yesterday that he thinks Brown is "doing a helluva job".

Along with the water and garbage bag, I shall strap to my back my 82 year old wheelchair bound mother. She can put the water on her lap. I shall then put my 2 children in one arm, (my husband is in Iraq) wrap my dog in rope and put that rope between my teeth.

I shall leave my other arm free so that I can push aside the debris and the dead bodies floating by me as I resolutely walk through calf, thigh and chest high water that is filled with known and unknown items. (that I am pushing away with my free limb) for X miles to get to X.

I do all this with 4 herniated discs that I received as a result of my carelessness at work. I was standing on a platform doing my job (S&R) and the platform collapsed I guess I should have telecomunicated. My car by the way was at the mechanics for yearly inspection.

I went to get it out on Saturday but the mechanic had fled. Yep, in my car. I called my uncle (he has a private corporate jet) but he could not come and get us, no permission to land.

Tried to rent a car, none left. I did see a big SUV leaving and when I asked for a ride to where ever, the driver said no, the back seat was filled with his clothes and knickknacks from his house. I offered him the 300.00 I had He grabbed it from my hand (the one the free limb is attached to) and he shut the door and took off.

Now, when I reached the French Quarter I went to the Hilton. No rooms. I did have a credit card left but the manager was busy getting the guests out. I then made my way to the convention center.There was a criminal element there (just like anywhere).

They had privatized all the water and food supply. Some were running around with guns and raping woman and children and stealing from people just seeking shelter. Others, were shooting at anything, moving or still. I believe they were the addicts coming down from a high and no where to get a fix. I am at my wits end.

It has begun to rain. I admit it is all my fault. I am an utter failure. I deserve what I get.

My great-great- great- great parents should never have settled here. Although I do know we had working levees in 1729.
